Catherine's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will enjoy a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a message before the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to generate funds for food banks.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

This annual carol service will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
